Nuwara Eliya
The most famous hill station also known by some as ‘little England’ mainly due to its climatic conditions “ drizzly weather” and cool climate is where the best hotels are located and the place where one could stay and explore the rest of the famous attractions found within the highlands.
Located at 6,182 feet above sea level and situated at the foot of mount Piduruthalagal, Sri Lankas highest peak, the town of Nuwara Eliya was discovered by Sir Samuel Baker in 1819. Thereafter an English village was established where the remains of it still can be seen. The main season is in April, where many locals and foreigners flock to Nuwara Eliya, to relish the salubrious climate, play Golf, enjoy the park, admire the high grown tea plantations, visit the Hakgala gardens and travel to Worlds End at Horton plains, where there is a sudden drop of the terrain of several thousand feet.
Haggala Botanical Gardens
Established in the 1860’s the garden is said to be the highest set botanical garden in the world. With an array of flowers, from many countries and mainly England is a worth while place to visit if you happen to be in Nuwara Eliya.
Horton Plains & Worlds End
Yet another attraction of natural beauty for those who love the out doors. Travel by jeep from Nuwara Eliya to Horton plains peak wilderness sanctuary, and enjoy a hike to ‘Worlds End” a high peak elevation with a breath taking view. Visit Bakers falls on your return back from Worlds End.
Ella
Enjoy the view as you travel from Nanuoya station to Ella, which is said to be the best part of a train ride or even by road to arrive at Ella. A visit to Ella Gap where the terrain drops by 3,000 feet and the beautiful Rawana falls is some of the main attraction there.
